Carlsbad By The Sea Hotel at 850 Palomar Airport Road, Carlsbad, California.

The breakfast service was bad- the omelettes were over 1/2 hour earlier than the closing time and still not replenished. Silverware over, coffee over.... annoying. Better go early and grab your food before it gets over. And standard breakfast nothing special. Frozen waffles with honey, no maple syrup. The four stars is for convenient location to Legoland and clean rooms clean linens.

The place has really become run down. Our first room had the smoke detector hanging from the ceiling and small dogs barking non stop next door. This is a pet friendly hotel but it requires a deposit and these guests were sneaking their pets in. The next room was only half clean and after settling in we realized the door did not lock. You could flip the switch all you wanted from inside, it looked like it locked, but someone outside could just push the door open. The pool was okay, it had a wheelchair lift, but it was not heated at all and the spa barely fit the two adults that were in it all night. The breakfast buffet was nice. It was extremely busy and the poor guy running it was doing his best to keep up with the demand. Having a shuttle to Legoland was a nice touch. They also had a staff taking great care in the landscaping, I just wish they werent doing it at 9 am Sunday morning outside my vacation window. Overall the bones and some of the structure is good but the whole place needs a major overhaul. When walking anywhere you have to watch for falling debris from the extremely rotten wooden overhangs and covers.
