I'd heard great things about the Ashtanga Yoga Center from my yoga buddies ever since I started experimenting with Ashtanga. It wasn't until I decided to take my practice to the next level by attending the David Garrigues workshop there last fall that I discovered the Ashtanga Yoga Center Outer Banks NC was the serious Ashtanga studio I had been looking for.

You can sense the strong tie to Ashtanga tradition the minute you walk in the door. Michelle Dorer is an advanced practitioner and has studied with K. Pattabhi Jois and several of his original students. I am constantly amazed at the knowledge she conveys in the firm gentleness of her adjustments and how the modifications she offers have enhanced my experience of the postures and the growth of my practice.

The 90-minute trip from Norfolk is an easy drive early in the morning, and I can be home from morning Mysore before noon. Even better is going to OBX for a "mini" Ashtanga retreat. I can enjoy a walk on the beach, a nice dinner, a good night's sleep, morning practice, a leisurely breakfast and be back in Norfolk all in one day!

Whether are looking for a studio while you visit the Outer Banks or one to call home, I absolutely recommend AshtangaOBX.

Great Experience!! Just starting yoga and attended AYC's Strong Foundation class. The instructor, Allison, was very down to earth, pleasant, and knowledgable. The small class allowed the instructor to give a lot of personal attention and impart certain nuances to allow the student to obtain the most from the asanas. I have since attend two more Introduction to Yoga classes with different instructors. Both Holly and Marne were very much part of the class and gave individual attention in a positive way regularly. I look forward to attending the classes. I would also like to add the the fellow students are friendly as well. Although this studio is about 21 miles away, I intend to go regularly.
